Outstanding Civil Service Employee

The purpose of this award program is to recognize civil service employee who has provided outstanding service to Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

The selection committee will choose the recipient to receive this Outstanding Service Award. The recipient of this award may be any full-time status SIUC civil service employee with a minimum of 5 consecutive years as a status civil service employee. This award will consist of a monetary award, provided by the SIU Foundation, and a plaque which will be presented at the annual service awards reception. Continuation of the monetary award is contingent upon availability of funds.

Selection Committee Composition

The award program will be administered by a committee of the Civil Service Council and shall consist of:

One representative from each sector represented on the Council; the President of the Council; the elected representative to the State Universities Civil Service Employee Advisory Committee to the Merit Board; one representative from the SIU Foundation, and the Director of Human Resources or designee. If any member of the committee nominated for the Outstanding Service Award must resign from the selection committee, the President of the Council shall appoint a replacement for that individual.

Criteria for Selection

Criteria for selection for the Outstanding Service Award shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Sustained job performance exceeding normal expectations
  • University service beyond assigned duties
  • Community service beyond university duties
  • Promotion of university and community relations
  • Special achievements or honors

The Selection Committee shall call for nominations. Nominations may be made in writing by a member of the university community by the specified deadline. Past recipients of the Outstanding Service Award are not eligible.

Employees who have been nominated may be asked to provide the selection committee with additional information.
