- If a student is required to be absent from class because of his/her performance as a volunteer emergency worker, as defined by the Volunteer Emergency Worker Higher Education Protection Act, 110 ILCS 122 et. seq., then each instructor or faculty member shall provide reasonable accommodations for such absence.
- Any student who is absent from class pursuant to this policy shall notify the instructors as soon as practicable of such absence and provide supporting evidence of the basis for the absence. The student shall make arrangements with the Instructor or Faculty member to make up any missed work.
- If a student is not satisfied with the accommodations provided by the instructor or faculty member pursuant to this policy or if the instructor or faculty member refuses to make such accommodations, then the student may appeal the decision of the instructor or faculty member to the Dean of the college. Such appeal shall be in writing and submitted to the Dean within five (5) business days of the denial of the requested accommodations. The Dean shall request a written explanation from the Instructor of Faculty member as to the denial of accommodations. The faculty member shall have five (5) business days to provide such explanation. The Dean shall then render a written decision related to the matter.
- If the student is not satisfied with the Dean's decision, the student may appeal that decision to the Provost or Provost's designee. Such appeal shall be in writing and submitted to the Provost or Provost's designee within five3 (5) business days of the Dean's decision. The appeal shall also include a copy of the Dean's decision. The Provost or Provost's designee decision related to this matter shall be final.
