Credit Union
The SIU Credit Union is a member-owned financial cooperative, managed and operated by a full-time, professional staff. Credit Union earnings are returned to the members in the form of additional services, higher dividends on savings, and lower rates on loans. Once employees or members of their families join the credit union by making the minimum deposit to a Membership Share account of $25, they are assured lifetime membership, even though no longer affiliated with SIUC, as long as the minimum deposit remains in the Membership Share account. Services include savings, checking, certificates, IRAs, loans for any purpose, direct deposit, payroll deduction, VISA credit card, on-line banking, four local ATMs and 59,000 completely free ATMs nationwide. Deposits are insured to $100,000 by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF). The SIU Credit Union offers a variety of locations for your convenience.

Recreation Center
University employees and spouses, upon presentation of a Certificate of Appointment or university ID and payment of the appropriate fee, may use the Student Recreation Center and participate in Intramural-Recreational Sports programs. Fees may be paid by the day, semester, or year. Locker and towel service is also available on a daily, semester, or annual basis.
In addition to the Olympic-size swimming pool and two indoor tracks, the Student Recreation Center offers areas for basketball, volleyball, racquetball, handball, squash, weightlifting, martial arts, aerobics, and programs for the disabled. There are over 180 fitness stations distributed throughout the building. Outdoor facilities include tennis courts at three campus locations, handball/racquetball courts, and 100 acres of playing fields. Picnic areas, a sandy beach and beach house, and boat dock facilities are available at Lake-on-the-Campus.
Intramural-Recreational Sports, located in the Student Recreation Center, provides a diversified program of competitive and non-competitive activities for students and employees throughout the year. The Recreational Sports program includes sport instruction, over 50 fitness classes each semester, Parent's Night In, and youth programs. The Adventure Resource Center provides information and educational clinics on outdoor-related topics. Camping, hiking, and fishing equipment is available from Base Camp for a nominal daily fee. Finally, Sports Medicine offers body fat tests, blood pressure checks, fitness assessments, and injury rehabilitation services.
SIU Foundation
The Southern Illinois University Foundation was established in 1942 to solicit, receive, hold, and administer gifts from private sources for educational purposes. The Foundation provides alumni and other friends with a means to contribute to Southern Illinois University Carbondale through a variety of arrangements, including cash, payroll deduction, securities and other non-cash gifts, bequests, life insurance, and other planned-giving instruments, such as trusts and charitable annuities. Employees may contribute to any approved program or activity of the university through the foundation (e.g., memorial funds, scholarships, Friends of WSIU).
SIU Press
Since its formal organization in 1956, Southern Illinois University Press has published over 1,400 books, earned the notice and approval of such distinguished review media as The New York Times and The Times Literary Supplement and received many awards for its publications. At its present rate of publishing over 60 books a year, the Press ranks in the upper half of the more than 90 American university presses.
The primary mission of the Press is to publish the results of scholarly research that, because of its subject and audience, are not readily acceptable for publication by a commercial publisher. To be published by the Press, manuscripts must make a substantial contribution to the disciplines with which they are concerned. The Press encourages the preparation of such work and invites members of the faculty and staff to consult with and make proposals to the Press regarding their writing and research. Such collaboration increases the range and vigor of scholarly activities within and without the Southern Illinois University system.
A secondary mission of the Press is to publish titles of special interest to our region. Many books of this kind appear in the Press's Shawnee Books, a series of studies dealing with the people, geography, and history of southern Illinois.
