Offices Reporting to the Chancellor

Provost and Vice Chancellor

The provost and vice chancellor has responsibility for developing and implementing academic policy and directing the planning of the academic and related budgets. As the senior academic administrator of the university, the provost and vice chancellor serves as acting chancellor in the chancellor's absence. The provost and vice chancellor, as ex-officio member of the Faculty Senate and Graduate Council, is the chief administrative liaison to these bodies.

The following schools and colleges on the Carbondale campus report to the provost and vice chancellor:

Other offices reporting to the provost and vice chancellor include the Dean of Students, Enrollment Management (including admissions, financial aid, bursar and registrar), SIU Extended Campus, Paul Simon Public Policy Institute, Center for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities, and the Southern Illinois University Press, Army and Air Force ROTC and Assessment and Program Review.

Administration and Finance

The vice chancellor for administration and finance oversees units responsible for the human, fiscal and physical resources of the university. Units reporting to the vice chancellor are:

• Auxiliary services, which includes recreational sports and services, University Housing, Rainbow’s End child development center, Student Health Services, Touch of Nature environmental center and Continuing Education and Outreach
• Finance, which includes Accounting Services, the Center for Environmental Health and Safety, and Procurement Services
• Human resources, which is responsible for civil service and administrative professional staff recruitment; salary, wage and benefit administration; staff training and development; and payroll
• Labor and Employee Relations, which supervises union contract negotiation and contract administration
• Department of Public Safety, which includes campus police and a parking division.
• Plant and Service Operations, which includes campus mail service, construction management, key control, laundry, physical plant, printing and duplicating and travel services

Development and Alumni Relations

The vice chancellor for development and alumni relations serves as the university's chief advancement officer and provides administrative direction for Alumni Services and the Southern Illinois University Foundation.

Alumni Services oversees the SIU Alumni Association, which was founded in 1896 to provide services and support to alumni and students of the university. The association publishes a quarterly magazine and sponsors alumni societies, reunions and homecoming activities.

The Southern Illinois University Foundation cultivates, solicits and invests private gifts. With offices located in Carbondale, Springfield and Chicago, the SIU Foundation also coordinates the fund-raising activities of the chancellor, academic units, the SIU Alumni Association, Intercollegiate Athletics, and other areas of the university.

Research

The vice chancellor for research promotes and supports research and scholarship at the university. The vice chancellor’s office oversees the Office of Sponsored Projects Administration and a number of research laboratories and centers, including:

School of Medicine

The dean and provost of the School of Medicine is the chief academic and administrative officer of the medical school and reports directly to the chancellor. The School of Medicine has faculty, staff and facilities on the Carbondale and Springfield medical campus, as well as regional family medicine residency programs in Carbondale, Decatur, Springfield and Quincy, Illinois.  There are clinical outreach and educational sites throughout the central and southern Illinois region.  The dean and provost is the principal liaison between SIU and the practice plan, SIU HealthCare, serving as a standing board member to SIU HealthCare and providing executive leadership to the chief executive officer.

Institutional Diversity

The associate chancellor for institutional diversity is responsible for developing, coordinating, and monitoring the university's Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Program and for maintaining the university's compliance with all state and federal anti-bias regulations. In addition, this office serves as liaison with state and federal compliance agencies.

Budget Office

The director of the budget office is responsible for all aspects of the university's budget, including planning, development, implementation, management, reporting and post-performance analysis.

Intercollegiate Athletics

The director of intercollegiate athletics is the chief administrator for both men's and women's sport programs. Reporting to the director are a deputy associate athletic director in charge of external affairs, an executive associate athletic director who acts as chief financial officer, a senior associate athletic director for internal operations and an associate athletic director in charge of facilities and event management.  Additional senior staff include associate or assistant athletic directors for student services (academics), compliance, marketing, media services, and sports medicine and training.

University Communications and Marketing

The chief marketing and communications officer is responsible for campus-wide strategic communications and marketing planning, implementation and measurement. Areas of responsibility include community relations, executive communication, marketing communication, media relations, photography, social media and web communication. The office also oversees compliance with the state’s Freedom of Information Act.

Institutional Reseach and Studies

The director of institutional research and studies is responsible for collecting, maintaining, analyzing and providing official data on SIU, including state (IBHE) and federally (IPEDS) mandated reports on registration, institutional characteristics, enrollment, graduation rates, financial aid, finances and human resources. This office also collects and compiles data for a number of surveys and websites, including U.S. News and World Report and the Voluntary System of Accountability

University Events and Protocol

The director of university events and protocol provides guidance and leadership in event planning; recognition of students, faculty, and alumni; protocol methodologies; commencement and convocation exercises.  The office is charged with carrying out the traditions inherent to Southern Illinois University.

Innovation and Economic Development

The deputy chancellor for innovation and economic development assists the chancellor with economic development, entrepreneurship and innovation initiatives. Areas of responsibility include representing the chancellor on area and statewide economic development boards and commissions, collecting economic impact data and linking external constituencies with campus resources. Units reporting to the deputy chancellor include the Office of Economic and Regional Development, which oversees multiple incubator and business innovation initiatives based at the Southern Illinois Research Park, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The Southern Illinois Research park includes three buildings: the Dunn-Richmond Economic Development Center, One Enterprise Place and One Innovation Place.
