Promotion

Employees are given preferred treatment in placement on the register for classifications in their promotional lines. After employees complete the probationary period in their classifications, meet the minimum acceptable qualifications for higher classifications in their promotional lines, and successfully pass the examinations for the higher classifications, their examination scores are placed on the promotional register ahead of both non-university and university candidates who are in different promotional lines. Employees who meet the requirements and have taken tests for higher level classifications in their promotional lines prior to the completion of the probationary period should request an examination rescore at Civil Service Employment and Classification upon completion of probation. Examination results will then be rescored from Original Entry to Promotional, thus giving these employees preference on their respective registers. Employees must initiate the request to have their examination results rescored. The rescoring does not take place automatically when an employee completes a probationary period. Veteran's preference points are not added to promotional examination scores.
